Fitness Ally App

Fitness Ally app uses AI-powered vision and camera to see and give users helpful form feedback in real-time.

Working with a team of AI engineers and developers, I took part in designing an iOS app that aims to make the personal trainer experience accessible to everyone.

Personal trainer in your pocket

With Fitness Ally’s computer vision and machine learning technology, the iOS app offers users the experience of exercising with a digital trainer that observes, corrects and improves their form, giving them real-time feedback on their workout and performances.

User journeys

After defining the MVP features of the app with our AI engineers and product team, I created the information architecture and wireframes to map out the various user journeys within the app. This included taking a fitness assessment, selecting workouts, setting workout goals, tracking workout statistics and adding new members to user’s account.

Usability testing

We conducted usability tests to collect feedback on the clarity of the UX flow. Through testing different on-boarding sequences, we discovered that most users are not always ready to start a workout right away when exploring the app for the first time. We decided that the placement of the fitness assessment should be after the paywall, instead of before (while making the paywall skippable).

We also conducted A/B tests to collect feedback on UI elements such as value proposition videos and paywall designs.

User-centric design thinking

Many of the design decisions were made during the on-boarding journey to reduce friction and improve ease-of-use. For example, instead of requiring the user to come up with a new username when they set up their account, a username is pre-generated and the user can choose to change it.

UI Design

I established the typography, color palettes, icons and imagery used in the app to ensure visual consistency as well as to reflect branding keywords such as sporty, next-gen and credible.
